Loop Systems
Induction loops are a fantastic invention. they allow anyone wearing a hearing aid to listen directly to what's going through the PA system without the coughing and fistling of sweetie wrappers from the people around them. Here's what the RNID say. They work the same way as an AC transformer - a coil within a coil. The sound from the desk is sent through a special amplifier, but instead of going to speakers, it just goes through a loop of cable round the room. That's the outer coil. Then, inside a hearing aid, there's another wee coil which is used when the hearing aid's switched to the 'T' position ('T' stands for telephone because that's where they were first used) - The inner coil The way induction works, the electrical signal (in this case the sound) passing round the outer coil will produce an identical electrical signal in the inner coil. The signal will be amplified or diminished depending on the number of turns in the coil. You can create a mix especially for deaf listeners. I know one minister tells them jokes while the offering's being collected!
